As we are already well into the new year, I cannot help but think about the ways in which I disappointed Christ with my behavior at multiple times throughout the year. There were many times when I was not right with him, and many of those times by choice and pure rebellion. I mean, falling back into drug use, however short of a time it may be. My relations with a young woman that God didn’t want me to have. Over-stepping my boundaries, being resistant to my authority, arguing with my best of friends. All of this was clearly against the will of God.

With all of that said, I’m resolving to die more. Jesus Christ said that if any man wants to follow Him, that they will have to take up their cross daily. That means there’s going to be a daily death. The cross was a death sentence. Many times, Christians think they understand the cross but they do not. They have a burden, and they say, “Well, it’s just my cross to bear.” No! It’s your burden to bear, not your cross. The cross is dieing to self. I heard in a message by David Wilkerson that none of us understand what it is like to see a man die on a cross. It was the most painful death anyone could have experienced. As soon as the sentence was pronounced upon that man, he lost all of his rights. When I carry my cross, I lose all my rights. It’s not about me. I, like Christ, must humble myself, even to the death of a cross.

Not only do I need to humble myself to the death of a cross, but I also resolve that I’m going to blog more this year. I’ve not been very faithful to my blogging, and I probably don’t even have a league of semi-faithful followers. All the same, what I hear in the ear I will speak on the housetop. This blog is my housetop. I need to follow the Lord’s command for my life.

I also resolve to be a better college student, but again it goes back to the cross. Why am I in Bible College? Is it because of something I want to do, or something Christ has called me to do? Is it for my own glory, or for His glory? I need to search it out, because I honestly don’t know the answer to it. I definitely think that at the beginning, it was for extremely selfish purposes. If I go to Bible College because it’s what God has called me to do.When it is something God has called me to do, then I can humble myself under His hand, take up my cross, die to myself, and just let go of everything I feel I have a right to.

That’s why I perform so badly in Bible college right now. Because I feel I have a right to do something else when I should be studying, but in reality, I don’t have a right to. I have an obligation to be studying, whether or not God’s called me to the Bible college. I signed up for classes, and I continue to sign up for classes. That puts me in a legal obligation to my Savior to not tarnish my testimony or His name by performing poorly or dropping out. What if Christ dropped out on what God asked Him to do? I wouldn’t be saved, that’s what. I mean, what if there’s some poor soul in Africa who won’t get touched by the Gospel because I don’t go to Bible college? Obviously that is a moronic question that shouldn’t even be asked because it’s tempting God. His sovereignty wouldn’t allow for something like that.

Bro. Burks preached a sermon on being in the way, and how he almost had one of the top bus coordinator jobs at Hyles-Anderson Bible College. He heard that his name had been crossed off a list. God forbid that Michie DeBerry would ever be crossed off of God’s list. I fear that might happen if I don’t diligently search His will for my life and follow that I may attain that which He has called me to.

Well folks, got a lot of studying to do for a big test tomorrow. Please pray for my pilgrimage as it is not getting any easier, but then again, I don’t expect it to. His word continues to be a lamp unto my path.

In His service,

Michie DeBerry

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted a blog. I figured it was time to get back to it. It’s been very busy between my new job and work.

My spiritual life took a pretty solid blow. My mom thinks she’s saved, but she doesn’t know for sure that she would go to heaven. She doesn’t pray, and she doesn’t read her Bible. I’m not saying you should base a person’s salvation on that, but ye shall know them by their fruits. Through my personal experience with her I began to question her salvation, and so through a conversation I had with her, I was able to come to the conclusion that she isn’t saved. Please pray for her. Her name is Shirley.

Do you have any unsaved loved ones? Please post it in the comments, I want to pray for them.

Also, I updated my “About Me” page to a shorter edition of my testimony.

Recently, I have been taking a class at Bible College, Baptist History and Heritage. It has been absolutely amazing to learn the history of my Baptist forefathers. Also, to realize that American Liberty has only been given because of the Separate Baptist movement during the time of the Revolutionary War. All you atheist out there: if it weren’t for us you would be FORCED to attend a church service of the Congregationalists. Isn’t that interesting? The Baptist pushed for pure freedom of liberty of conscience, and not a state sanctioned religion with tolerance. In New England, in the beginning times of our country, especially in the state of Massachusetts, there was a tax that was required to be payed, by law, to the preachers of the churches. It was against the law not to tithe! I’m sure preachers of America would appreciate it if that were the case today, but that would be enforcing something that only the Bible could enforce on someone. It’s a persons love of God that makes them tithe, not respect for the law.
Also, that people were willing to die over the issue of infant baptism because it was considered the badge of the antichrist is amazing! I never realized the importance that the local churches need to place on the ordinances of the church.
I recommend American Crimson Red by James Beller for anyone who is interested in learning about their Baptist forefathers.

I’ve been having some deep meditation on a few different things lately. One of the most impacting is the fact that Jesus Christ says His burden is light, and His yoke is easy. If Christ speaks truth, then that is the truth. If that’s the truth, then why do we make it so difficult upon ourselves?

Well, being in the Reformers Unanimous Men’s Home, people often get upset over a minor violation, or over having to sit patiently on the bus. His yoke is easy. They get mad about a minor violation. His yoke is easy. They worry about write ups. His yoke is easy.

To be a servant of Jesus Christ is to literally be a slave, with no rights or privileges. So then why do people think they have rights and privileges? Why do people get upset when things happen they don’t like? Is not God in control? Is He simply asking them to die to self? If we are dead, then why do we get so worked up? I am crucified with Christ. I AM DEAD! Why do we get so emotional and cause so many problems?

I’m not telling you to not think, or this or that. I’m saying, why resist the flow? If you do it on the outside, but resist on the inside, it causes pain and turmoil on the inside, and it isn’t easy! His yoke is easy! If you resist on the outside and on the inside, then it still isn’t easy, HIS YOKE IS EASY! Make the decision today, and tomorrow, and daily, that you are dead, you are not your own, you belong to Him, and He will not place you anywhere He does not want you, and He is in complete control.

Hello all. This is my first blog post, and hopefully there will be many to follow. This blog will be about my devotions, and about my personal life. It is about Michie DeBerry as he walks with God. May it minister grace to your soul.

Today’s post is out of Matthew 7. Matthew 7:7-8 says Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. And Matthew 7:13-14 says
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

So, I began to meditate upon these verses. At first, I thought that these verses applied to the unsaved against the saved. God told me to look at it in a new way, He told me it applies to all the saved people. Just because a person is saved does not mean that they are living life, they might be living out destruction. How many times do people go through something difficult and then question it, themselves, or God? Too many times! They are not living a spiritual life, but rather an unspiritual life. There are so few people that find a deep intimate relationship with Christ because not everyone is actively seeking it. If they are not finding it, then they are not seeking it. Are you seeking it?

Also, I would like to point out to all of you that the word “receiveth” in the Greek means “To lay hold of that which is offered.” Our heavenly Father knows what things we have need of before we ask, so why do not we just lay hold of that which is freely offered? One such promise is abundant life, as given to us in John 10:10. It is a freely offered gift, but yet do we not accept it? Do we not lay hold of it? The Bible clearly tells us that we are blessed with all spritual blessings when we are in Christ. Why do people have problems accepting the fact that they already have all the grace they need, they already have the mercy that they need. They already have the abundant life and the ability to obey the Bible. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. We must humble ourselves and lay hold of the promises of scripture in the presence of God.

My heart is deceitfully wicked. He told me that I need to start praying for the desire to seek God in a more intimate and real way. I did, and He has been giving me understanding that I’ve never had, and I’ve been through things spiritually in the past week that I never have. I have a new excitement and a new joy. I can honestly say that I am reaching out for the abundant life. Seek, and ye shall find.
